Warning: this is the sort of boring faux-third person spiel you should probably only read if you’re thinking of giving James money in exchange for his services.

James is a freelance writer, editor and communications consultant based in rural East Anglia.

He has written about science and technology for Ars Technica, New Atlas, Smithsonian Magazine, Lux Magazine, Gamasutra and beyond, becoming EMEA Managing Editor for New Atlas for a number of years.

He’s worked extensively in commercial and government sectors, most recently helping Autodesk’s Shotgun Software, fintech consultants 11:FS, Natwest’s online banking brand Mettle, and the digital team at Essex County Council establish a tone of voice.

Prior, James worked as a content specialist at Slack, helping establish the company’s clear and concise help centre, as well as fast, friendly customer interaction on Twitter.

And before that, he worked at the Government Digital Service, leading comms on the government’s Digital Transformation Programme of important services like Register to Vote, producing a series of short films while he was at it.

In his spare times he edits and contributes to a handful of publications and newsletters for local organisations and charities.

You can email James at this address: james [at] fastmail [dot] uk. (You read that correctly – there is no co. before the uk.)
